Fremdsprachliche und methodische Weiterqualifizierung für Grundschullehrer(innen) im Fach Französisch
Date du début: 1 oct. 2016, Date de fin: 30 sept. 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

17 primary school teachers from the Saarland will go to a language school in Antibes, South of France, in spring 2017 to improve language skills and teaching methods (30 hours). They also observe lessons at the nearby School in Vence that Freinet started in 1935. In addition, a mandatory cultural program is planned (Picasso Museum, Fondation Maeght, old town of Antibes, Nice). The participants are separated into groups of different levels which are more focused on general language (level one) or stronger technical language (advanced level). For teachers, whose graduation dates back for some time, or those without degree in French language, the language course enhances language competences in general. These are mainly based on listening comprehension and speech and match with the compulsory subjects of the curriculum for primary schools in the Saarland. The most important objective for this group is to enable them to teach French more self-confidently and fluently. By way of contrast, teachers of bilingual schools or form teachers have very good general foreign language skills but nevertheless some difficulties in teaching other non-linguistic subjects in French language (CLIL). Therefore they are taught in a different group whose priority is the improvement of technical language skills. The participant who works as an instructor in teacher training courses communicates a lot with French native speakers (participants or guest speakers in training courses, instructional trainers from the "Centre Transfrontalier" while preparing binational teacher training courses). Efficient cooperation demands a high degree of comprehension and expression concerning especially topics like "second language acquisition" and "education". All three target groups need - due to the inclusion in Saarland primary schools - methodical aids like differentiation and cooperative learning methods in teaching French. This is the aim of the methodological workshops and the guest visit to the Freinet school. Furthermore, project ideas for the class, school or school partnerships are presented, which can be implemented in the schools. Not to be underestimated for intercultural gain is the stay abroad per se: Getting to know a different region of France, which fundamentally differs from the neighboring region, the exchange with the French colleges during the visit of the Freinet school, the above-mentioned cultural supporting program - all of which will ultimately be incorporated into the classroom and will benefit to pupils. In the long term, the course will positively influence the attitude towards France and could help (especially bilingual schools) to create French school profiles.
