Fostering INclusion through an OUTstanding experience
Date du début: 1 mars 2014,

“Fostering INclusion though an OUTstanding experience” is a group EVS initiative coordinated by InCo with the participation of 10 volunteers from 7 different countries (Spain, Costa Rica, Kenya, Palestine, Armenia, Poland and Italy). It's a life and learning experience to volunteers who will promote social inclusion developing their services in one of the 5 different HOs involved – all of them dealing with adults facing disadvantages situations (loneliness, social exclusion, low self-esteem, etc.). 4 HOs are located in Italy while 1 is in Costa Rica. Inclusion is understood not only to those assisted by the HOs but also to volunteers themselves seen that special eye was laid on those with fewer opportunities. They will collaborate with the staff of the HOs being specially involved in social and recreational activities (such as painting, gardening, table games, music therapy sessions, seminars, etc.). Volunteers will be stimulated to be in touch with each other and exchange experiences, organizing and developing own ideas to promote impact on local communities (sending and hosting). Services vary from 6, 9 and 12 months. The Person-centered Approach (Carl Roger) will be the main methodology employed being divided in 3 main steps: learning through experiences, theoretical verification and personal growth. Practical activities will be complemented with an initial Job-shadowing until volunteers get more autonomous to develop own ideas. Being outside of their country and “comfortable zone”, volunteers will be able not only to confront themselves with different situations but to reflect about their own culture, condition, personality. On the other hand, being inside a new reality will allow them to explore and learn about it in deep, being at the same time also an enriching input and example to local community. The possibility to be IN and OUT at the same time makes intercultural learning (an not only) very significant.
