Fortführung der Maßnahmen zur Verbesserung der Internationalisierung und zum Ausbau des fächerübergreifenden Unterrichts
Date du début: 1 juin 2015,
Date de fin: 31 mai 2017
At Schloss-Gymnasium is it important for us that significant focus is placed on international education. Besides our numerous Exchange programmes with partner schools in England, France, Spain and China, there is the exciting opportunity to follow a route leading to bilingual education, namely students being taught one of their core subjects (either History or Geography) in English. Our School Exchange with Watford Grammar School for Boys has been in situ for 50 years and in addition to this, at our school a joint emphasis within the Maths and Science Departments has been established, which is endeavouring to become more deeply involved at an international level.
In addition to full teaching of Geography and History in English, it is planned that outside these bilingual courses even brief modules of these subjects would be integrated into standard middle-term English language lessons. This would then even benefit students, who may not have opted to take the bilingual courses. In terms of increasing Europeanisation, the bonds created through exchange programme with Watford Grammar School boys should become even stronger, although it is hoped this contact would not solely be maintained by colleagues within the English department. In particular it is desired that the Science departments become more involved in this area.
Participant numbers and profiles
All our participating colleagues represent a selection of teachers with extensive job experience. All have already gained experience in teaching English modules offered in subjects, which would otherwise be taught in German. All participants have already met the relevant further education requirements.
Four colleagues actively participate in promoting further education (through CLIL and ALM respectively) and furthermore two of our colleagues have ensured the continued opportunity for our students to sit in and take part in classes at our English Partner School in Watford.
Long-term project outcomes and effects
Participants shall seek to integrate English language modules into their own teaching, but can also be expected to instruct colleagues who have interest in pursuing bilingual lessons. If these foundation steps are taken are more and more frequently, then this bilingual aspect will become a firmly anchored point within the programme. Contacts with our English partner school will also be put on a broader basis. Students will experience how significant this international exchange programme really is through practical application in the field of sciences. “Best practice examples” will be adopted and further joint projects will be planned for the future. These acquired skills and knowledge will then be further passed on through institutionalized contacts with other schools.
