Pedro Sainz de Andino is a Secondary High School located in Alcalá de los Gazules. a) Educational context: We are an educational Centre in a small town in Cádiz. Our students present a medium-low socioeconomic level that has been deteriorated throughout the past years, due to the important economic crisis Spain is going through. Our unemployment rate is very high in Alcalá de los Gazules. This situation makes it hard for our students to have a distinct bilingual education from what can be offered at the Centre. The teaching staff believes that the bilingual project is an opportunity for all the educational community as it opens a unique future expectation we cannot miss. This project emerges from the detection of formative needs for the teaching staff, in order to be a bilingual Centre next academic year 2014-2015. b) Participants Four teachers will be selected for carrying out B2 preparation courses and specific CLIL courses. The criteria will be objective, always giving preference to the Centre necessities. A selection committe will be created, regulated by the school board in order to select among the potential candidates. The criteria will be: - Teachers with permanent position in the Centre and a minimum level of english to make the most of the formative courses, making a commitment to work on the Bilinguialism Programme of the Centre. - Potencial candidates who meet the requirements previously described will be advertised and interviewed. - A commission will be set up inside the school board in order to select the teachers. - Formative needs of the Centre will be prioritized. c) Activities description: BEFORE 1) Trainig course given by the language teachers of the Centre to the participants. 2) Search of CLIL material in order to become familiar with the methodology. DURING 3) Formative courses for the teachers in linguistic field and CLIL methodology. 4) Cultural immersion (visits, conferences, ...) AFTER 5) Creating a work team to elaborate teaching resources. 6) Participating in conferences to spread the project. d) Proyect results and impact: - The improvement of the participating teachers will affect positively and directly the improvement in linguistic communication skill of our students. - Making the Centre open to a new culture and a new methodology will suppose a change in expectations not only for the Centre but for the whole scholar community in the town. - Job opportunities will be increased thanks to bilingual education. e) Diffusion: We will inform through our website about the activities related to bilinguialism to be done in our Centre, which will be at the disposal of any member of the scholar community (parents, teachers, students, ...). Given that we will start to be part of a bilingual schools net, meetings with other bilingual schools of the zone will be carried out in order to share experiences and make projects together. Our school goes for a high quality standards as much in liguistic fields as in non-linguistic ones and that is why we believe this trainig is necessary for the teachers in order to achieve an acceptable level of the language.
