Agrupamento de Escolas de (Group of Schools) Sever do Vouga (AESV) is the only "agrupamento" in the county and provides education to about 1500 students aged between 3 and 18 years. Situated between the mountains and the sea, the county of Sever do Vouga suffers from some isollation mainly because of poor access and the dispersal of residential households. At school level were identified as major problems early school leaving, school absenteeism, and poor results in areas such as mathematics, English or experimental sciences. Striving for excellence and quality, for the improvement of educational service, for better learning and consequently better educational outcomes through innovative teaching methods, prevention of early school leaving and vocational training and update of their teachers are among the main concerns of AESV. The training courses we intend to attend seem to meet our training needs, as they address the issues in question, in particular, the most recent teaching methodologies in key areas, innovative practices in the classroom, upgrade in foreign languages, update in foreign languages innovative methodologies, education for the environment, new technologies and practices in experimental science, new teaching technologies, ways of attracting students to make the learning experience rewarding and seen as an important contribution to personal development.
Participation in training courses in other European countries will allow us to become aware of a different reality, that will enrich us as professionals, opening horizons and expanding knowledge through the exchange of experiences. The results will certainly be very positive, both in terms of the participants, who will update their practices in a proactive way, sharing with their peers new teaching methodologies, innovative and refreshing practices that will enable the success of all the surrounding school community.
The training will certainly have a large impact both in the short and long term, as are expected improvements at all levels of participation and involvement: students, teachers, families and school community in general. Students will, ultimately, be the ones who will draw more benefits, since a greater involvement and motivation of teachers will be revealed by more attractive and engaging practices that can provide a more promising future for students. Motivated and committed students will become engaged adults and builders of a better society. At a time of great economic and social difficulties, and being the area where this school is situated particularly affected, practices and hopeful solutions at the school level, from pre-school to secondary education, will certainly be a breath of fresh air to propel these children and young people to build an innovative and rewarding country where it will be worth living.
