Forging European citizenship through literature
Date du début: 1 sept. 2015, Date de fin: 31 août 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

In times when European values such as respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy and equality are hugely challenged, we plan to publish those literary authors who by telling their stories question these values and create a new basis for pluralism, tolerance, justice and solidarity. We are proud to present ‘Forging European citizenship through literature’, a two year project, in which we are publishing ten novels from widely different European countries, and enabling their authors and readers to share ideas and participate in an European readers community. All the stories included in this project help us to reflect on European identity and enhance our knowledge of cultures other than our own. A well told story brings another culture closer. Our aim is to share these reading experiences, with as many readers as we can. We're in the midst of our move from traditional publishing to shared entrepreneurship in quality storytelling. We work out a broad scope on how these stories can find their readers and go where the reader is. It are inspiring times in which new business models are being developed. Thanks to our experience in the field, we take the global challenges and the digital in particular with both hands and will elaborate on it further on [cf. also our strategy in appendix].As translated literary fiction is having a hard time on the Dutch book market, and the publication of some of the included titles is a fragile undertaking we would be most grateful to be able to benefit from the Creative Europe support in translation, promotion and distribution of these titles. We have shared missions: supporting cultural and linguistic diversity and promoting the circulation of high quality literary work by improving the accessibility and reaching for new audiences. We therefor would be honored to become partners in this 'Forging European Identity through Literature'- project.
