Description (EN): The Food Industry has an important economic impact in the Dutch-German INTERREG region and is characterized by a large amount of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) on both sides of the border. Specially the SMEs are challenged by the development in the global food market and by the demands of consumer.In order to make the regional food business fit for the future by improving their competitiveness the project FOOD2020 is developed in-line with the Europe 2020 Strategy on smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. In FOOD2020 the five topics of the European Strategy - research and development, climate change and sustainability, social inclusion, education and employment - are adapted for the food asector in the region by setting up cross-border networks among companies and research and educational institutions. The development of new products and processes, the demand of resource efficiency in food processing and the safeguard of high educated employees for working on novel technologies will be initiated in FOOD2020 by tailor-made Innovation Projects and Feasibility Studies following the needs of the food sector in the region. It is a start to set up a model region for future food processing. For the five topics in total 10 cross-border Innovation Projects are launched, so that at least 84 companies will adapt the results. Additionally 25 Feasibility Studies will be operated in the five topics to provide approaches to solve actual problems in 50 SMEs. The Feasibility Studies are the base for developments in the follow-up phase. In heel het Duits-Nederlandse INTERREG-gebied speelt de foodsector economisch gezien een grote rol. Tegelijkertijd is het aandeel MKB-bedrijven in de sector het zeer hoog, aan weerszijden van de grens. Met name van de MKB-bedrijven wordt zeer veel gevraagd, kijkende naar de wereldwijde economische ontwikkelingen en de consumenten die steeds hogere eisen stellen. Om de concurrentiekracht van de foodsector in de regio te versterken en bedrijven zo voor te bereiden op het jaar 2020, richt het FOOD2020-project zich uitdrukkelijk op het Europese 2020-concept voor slimme, duurzame en inclusieve groei. De vijf thema’s - onderzoek en ontwikkeling, klimaatverandering en duurzaamheid, sociale inclusie, onderwijs en werkgelegenheid - worden binnen FOOD2020 vertaald naar de behoeften van de foodsector in de Duits-Nederlandse grensregio door te investeren in de opbouw van grensoverschrijdende netwerken tussen bedrijven en instellingen voor onderzoek en onderwijs.De vertaalslag wordt binnen FOOD2020 gemaakt met behulp van gerichte, vraaggestuurde innovatieprojecten en haalbaarheidsstudies door in te zetten op de ontwikkeling van nieuwe producten en processen, het terugdringen van grondstoffengebruik in het productieproces en het werven en behouden van gekwalificeerde medewerkers voor een efficiënt gebruik van de nieuwe technologieën. Daarmee wordt binnen het INTERREG-gebied gefaseerd en geleidelijk een modelregio opgebouwd voor een toekomstbestendige food industrie.Rond de vijf thema’s zijn in totaal 10 grensoverschrijdende innovatieprojecten gepland. De innovatieve ontwikkelingen die dit oplevert worden bij 84 bedrijven in de regio toegepast. Bovendien worden rond de vijf thema's 25 haalbaarheidsstudies uitgevoerd waarin nieuwe technologiëen voor 50 MKB-bedrijven aan weerszijden van de grens op hun technische haalbaarheid worden getoetst.
