Folk Music in MusEUms - Young musicians and old instruments
Date du début: 3 mai 2010,

FolkMus aims to enhance and to disseminate European folk-music culture to the international public by using a powerful and global language in order to overcome the limits of language barriers. The project intends to stimulate creativity giving a right place to folk young musicians' talent.Folk music is a strong identity character, but it is also a means of trans-national communication joining North and South, countryside and city, tradition and modernity. For those reasons the action is focused mainly on young people regarded as musicians and/or researchers and as users of this specific musical and cultural domain. To spread as wide as possible the folk music and to emphasize his value the project will bring folk music in places usually precluded for this kink of music and cultural dimension: the Museum.Museums will host the various activities of study, exhibitions and performances related to folk music and traditions of the countries involved. So the folk music will break the silence and go in the museum that will echo by means of ancient instruments and modern languages and registers. The main character will be played by the family of aerophone instruments. Those are ancient instruments of great influence and cultural value that allow outlining an historical and musical path that links the utriculus of the Ancient Rome to the bagpipes, common, in different shapes and models, in almost all the European regions. This kind of communication will allow to speak a common language among young people which in different corners in Europe commit themselves, with passion, to an instrument with a thousand-year history that travelled, transformed itself. The project links some relevant experiences of different EU countries that focus on folk music as theme of research and study by a large number of young musicians.Songs and dances of folk traditions will be studied, documented and collected in discos and performed in concerts by a new wave of young musicians.
