Our participating students are furture social assistants and preschool teachers who are going to work in nursery schools in the metropolitan Rhine-Neckar region. Our professional training enables them to successfully integrate into the regional labour market.Since there has been a persisting stream of refugees into our region, nursery school staff has to face new challenges. They have to integrate children (and parents) from various origins with totally different social and cultural backgrounds, who are not able to speak the German language, thus giving them the opportunity of a better life. Therefore our nursery school teachers need internationally approved strategies, which they are going to acquire through their work placement in London. The knowledge gained here shall be transferred to effectively meet the challenges our German childcare institutions are facing. By adjusting our vocational education to the needs of the European labour market our vocational college wants to lay the cornerstone for a further internationalisation of our school.Besides gaining knowledge about the successful integration of immigrant children our students' multilingualism shall be promoted. Furthermore our participants' self-confidence, problem-solving skills and reflection abilities will increase. These skills qualify them as competent employees who will spread the European idea locally and regionally. As a consequence the quality of educational work in our nurseries will increase sustainably.Our 30 participating students have to complete a twelve-month mandatory internship in the course of their training, which can also be carried out abroad. Cooperating with ADC College London we would like to give 15 students a year the opportunity to gain work experience in multicultural nursery schools in London.After extensive linguistic and cultural preparation at our vocational college, our students are taking part in a a one-week language course at ADC College to extend their technical vocabulary. The following two weeks they are spending at their workplace, monitored by ADC staff, one of our BBS teachers and their nursery school supervisor.In a one-to-one meeting with their mentor and at the accompanying teacher's visit to the institution they will reflect on the experiences made at work and review challenging situations. Additional support is offered by a German speaking contact person from ADC College and a 24-hour emergency phone.Cooperation with ADC College guarantees high quality supervision of our participants and adaptation of the project to the students' individual needs, as the college has a long experience of successfully developing and executing international mobility programmes in partnership with educational institutions from all across Europe. The work experience department is in close contact with a wide range of employers that partner ADC and ensures that students are accommodated in accredited host famlilies.After finishing their placement, our students are going to receive their ADC Certificate and the Europass. Back home they are going to give presentations on their stay and the results of their investigations, as well they will produce an online-handbook on strategies for a successful integration of immigrant children.After the implementation of the project into our school's curriculum we would like to extend our international cooperation to further European countries by offering a wider range of international work placements and developing sustainable parnerships with European educational institutions. Thus we may substantially improve the European vocational education and make it competitive on an international level.
