This proposal describes the project: “Fit for Europe,” a program which emphasizes international skills within the vocational education of training programs for vocational students attending the vocational and technical school of Oldenburg County, which is located in Wildeshausen and also known as the BBS Wildeshausen. These students participate in the one year vocational school specializing in the food service industry, as well as in the second year of the commercial and trade apprenticeship, including sectors such as industrial, wholesale, and foreign trade, retail and office management. Considering the continued growth of the European Union, it is ever more apparent that local training establishments within Oldenburg County emphasize the importance of international experience and the personal development of their trainees. These skills also enable students / trainees to obtain and complete long term internships in suitable companies. We would like to help students develop a “European mindset,” in order to prepare them for the future world of work. They will become empowered and encouraged to adapt to new situations, local techniques and jobs skills, and to learn and practice the rules of international business transactions. Furthermore, our students will develop personal skills that help them acclimatize to foreign cultures and to be open to the new and unknown. Each student will complete an internship in their specialty, within a company selected to participate in the project. As a result, participants receive professional training tailored to their specialty.Through this, students can expand their personal and intercultural horizons. They get to know and learn about the different facets of a foreign country, including discovering the culture of both work and everyday life. The partner school in Poland, ZespółSzkółZawodowych, is a vocational education association. Its technical college is from one to four years with foreign languages including German and English. The school’s concentration is on programs for technicians for food and catering services. These students receive a secondary school diploma, as well as completing training as a chef / cook. The partner school has already agreed to supervise our students, organize accommodations and meals, to find internships, and provide support should problems arise. In regards to the partner school in England, we are proud to be working with the Guildford College International Centre, an institution that has trained and supervised English as well as internal students for many years. The International Centre is responsible for organizing the transport of students to Guildford, the appointment of contact persons and teachers, as wells as for the internships and the student’s accommodations. In addition, in the event that a student has a problem, there is a 24 hour "emergency number.” In the past, the Guildford College International Centre has proven to be a trustful and reliable partner.
