FENICIA: The Future of Mainstream Education through New Instruments for Distance/Distributed Learning

The ´Fenicia´ project will develop an alternative to traditional face-to-face approaches in vocational training in Commercial Management and Marketing, while maintaining the officially recognised character of the resulting qualification. The goal of this project is to provide an adequate response to current special training requirements for small businesses. The experience of different partners shows that the range of training options available is not currently meeting training needs. Retail associations have clearly identified their need for training in new commercial management techniques. They are aware that business hours make long-term training participation difficult. Moreover, the widespread use of ICT can be a positive aid to the development to more competitive management, marketing and sales techniques. This project will develop an appropriate pedagogical model for distance/distributed learning. This implies: a selection of information and techniques transmitted by distance learning or through a face-to face approach; selecting and adapting IT resources most appropriate to different activities; developing and evaluating a system that will permit the accreditation of the learning achieved by the relevant administration body. The final outcome will be the publication of training materials in appropriate formats, in partnership with recognised publishers in the field of vocational training. The promoter is an active participant in the EU's Prometheus initiative, in particular in the SIG. The results arising from this exercise will be disseminated at Pan-European level.
