FENARETE - Vocational Training and Work Placement Support for Peer Educators working with Prostitutes

FENARETE will develop a model training course aimed at former prostitutes wishing to train in the provision of health and social support to those still working in the field. The willingness of former prostitutes to invest their time, energy, skills, knowledge and ability in active collaboration with projects and services addressing prostitution, necessitates that up-to-date training be provided to this group, to empower individual 'peer educators' to work in the field. The project will both enhance the role of the 'peer educator' within related support sectors and will encourage the development of a socially motivated support enterprise, able to fully participate in the professional provision of social support services. Following initial training with the target group, a structure will be introduced for additional and ongoing training to ensure the group are able to stay informed of changes in both legislative and socio-health matters.Activities will comprise the development of a training package (methodology and actual training modules) for the training of trainers and 'peer educators' and the promotion of actual job-entry for trained peer educators within the sector. A further common communication platform will be established for 'peer educators' and their trainers, across the range of partner countries, thus allowing the exchange of experience & good practice in working with the end user group.Planned dissemination activities include the hosting of a public information conference to inform upon the successes and achievements of the project and a series of awareness raising activities with local training and support agencies to ensure that future training demand is able to be met.
