Our European section corresponds to a will to equip our students with an operational competency in a foreign language by promoting their placement in the professional world in which the use of a foreign language is a valuable asset. In today’s and tomorrow’s job market, the ability of an administrative employee to use a foreign language such as English has become essential and makes a great difference. The expected results are: greater motivation in their studies, the possibility to continue post-secondary studies more easily (BTEC and BTEC HND), a better insertion into the professional world by the ability to integrate into different work environments, the asset of the foreign internship and “European honors” on their CV. Foreign internships are particularly sought by French businesses; European mobility is therefore essential to the professionalism of our students. The relevance of this project’s aspects to the professional development of the students. Our project envisages 7 students on an internship in November-December 2014.The students in the European section generally come from middle schools. Motivated and looking for a different school program, and attracted by an experience outside France, they choose the European section for the openings it provides. The main activities of our European mobility project are summarized as follows: DURING THE FIRST YEAR OF VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL : Reception of first-year students, intervention of Foreign Language and Language Immersion teachers to explain the European section, welcoming of the students, language, pedagogical and cultural preparation , start-up of Immersion classes, meetings with the families in October and February (parent-teacher evenings), putting in place “traffic lights” evaluations every 6 weeks (during school vacations), regular meetings with students and families to discuss their positions and motivation, first professional training period. DURING THE SECOND YEAR : Language, pedagogical and cultural preparation of the students, meetings with the families in October and February, continuing of positioning and motivation interviews with the students, continuing of “traffic lights” evaluations, last definitive interviews on positioning and report cards, executed with the students in May, before their next professional training period Second training period in businesses, search of financing/elaboration of the budget/request of financing , signature of the agreement with the Regional Council of Ile-de-France. DURING THE FINAL YEAR, signing of the new contract, transmission of English CVs written by the students with INI, organization of language tests, evaluation and transmission to the intermediary partner, organization of trip materials, collection of payments of the families, signing of a professional internship agreements by the students at the last meeting with the families Inscription of the students in the EUROPASS program, transmission by INI of information on the host families and companies, commitment of expenditure, execution of internships from mid-November to Christmas, accompaniment and installation of the students by a teacher. End of the internship: evaluation by 2 teachers, financial report, preparation of the students for their specific examination, participation of the Euro students in the doors-open days, testimonials. AFTER THE SUMMER HOLIDAY: Remittance of the EUROPASS and of the vocational Baccalaureate, if appropriate and dissemination. Our methodology used to lead our project is mainly focused on advice and suggested references in the Guide to European Sections. Our vocational European section is the result of revisions that can be summarized in six points: collective and concerted dynamic (management committee), school’s project euro section in the board of directors, H. Resources of our school, setting up of partnerships, and professional internships in Europe. This period of mobility contributes to the development of the students’ transverse skills and eventually become the actors of their training and engage themselves in paths that better correspond with their expectations; The achievement of the vocational Baccalaureate promotes further studies. This is, for us, the pedagogical team, one of the most important products of the organization and of the success of our European mobility. The 3-year European section program is therefore a powerful tool that increases the employability of our students as it develops European citizenship and professional mobility.
