Each European country has its own language and national identity. Storytelling, reading and writing all promote language as the key to all communication. Fairy tales are a significant part of a very old literature genre and can be found all over Europe.Orally read fairy tales are an intellectuel challenge for children. The tales stimulate the imagination and lead to new feelings and moods in children. This intellectual process is important for the development of language, speech, and reading.The partners will develop this basic theme and demonstrate the above mentioned points to the pupils through a mutually-agreed upon selection of European fairy tales.During the first year, all participating schools will work with a fairy tale typical of and originating from the native country. In preparation for the exchange and comparison of fairy tales in the second year, a further fairy tale, familiar to all participating countries, will be selected, e.g. Cinderella.During the second year of the project, primary emphasis will be placed upon working with the fairy tales, native to the various partner countries. The children will be actively involved in various ways and make use of all their senses during planned activities as e.g. oral reading projects or stage shows. The children will learn to recognize similarities, as well as differences. In a Leporello the similarities and differences will be illustrated and defined in a child-appropriate manner.A doll, EUgenia, is the symbol of the partnership. During the 2-year project she will evolve into a new fairy tale figure, representative of this project. She will travel to all the participating countries and record her travel experiences in her travel diary, written by the children.
