Extending Spanish Teaching and Widening Participation at St Pauls
Date du début: 1 juin 2015, Date de fin: 31 mai 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

St Paul's recently introduced Spanish to the curriculum and is now offering an A Level course. Only one other school in the City of Leicester does so at the moment. The objective of the project is to train staff to teach the language better and be confident to run the course. None of the members of staff have studied the language at university level and they have been refreshing their knowledge as they taught students. They lack linguistic competences and confidence, and crucially a real understanding of the culture in order to make learning a much richer experience. Participants will prepare for the mobility by assessing their linguistic competences, evaluating the courses they teach and are about to teach, with a view to embedding authentic cultural resources and initiating contact with the link school in Spain. During the mobility, participants will have intensive linguistic training, immerse themselves in the culture of the country and meet their link school partners to set up an international link. On returning from the mobility, participants will share their newly acquired knowledge, skills and the resources that they collected during the mobility. All of this will take place via their teaching, displays and presentations to both St Paul's Senior Leadership Team and the rest of the department but also to local secondary schools. Thanks to the project, students will experience a better learning environment richer in cultural awareness and be presented with target language on a more regular basis. Through the international link they will have direct contact with native speakers. All of these combined will lead to better attainment for the students, improved exam results and, in the long term, an increased take up for languages at GCSE and A level.
