THE CONTEXT Refugee and migrant flows in Europe are at an unprecedented high. EU and Mediterranean countries are facing a humanitarian emergency involving much more than 25.000 unaccompanied migrant children (UMC). The lack of sufficiently detailed information means this does not receive the international attention that it deserves. An Unaccompanied Migrant Children is a non-EU national or stateless person below the age of 18 who arrives on the territory of the EU States unaccompanied by an adult responsible for him/her, and for as long as s/he is not effectively taken into the care of such a person. In this frame EU and Member States are supposed to ensure that children in the context of migration are treated first and foremost as children and that the principle of the child’s best interests takes precedence over migration management objectives. UMC are particularly vulnerable due to the critical condition of their migratory plan, many of them end up with exploitation, prolonged detention, unable to access their rights to education, health care, or to seek asylum, and left without adequate legal protections in domestic legal systems throughout the continent. This underlines the urgency of measures to support unaccompanied migrant children.GENERAL OBJECTIVETo strengthen and support coherent approaches to unaccompanied migrant children in the frame of youth work and Euro-Mediterranean cooperation.SPECIFIC OBJECTIVETo foster capacity of youth workers to guarantee rights and protection of unaccompanied migrant children in the Euro-Mediterranean region.TRAINING COURSEDuration: 10 daysVenue: Caltanissetta, ITTC will provide training on “Child Rights Programming” by promoting a ‘child rights-based approach’ in youth work. Through a non-formal, intercultural & creative learning process, the TC will equip participants with knowledge & practical tools to undertake a child rights situation analysis & design community-based projects through child rights-based approach, analytical steps & logical framework planning.NUMBER AND PROFILE OF PARTICIPANTSThe TC is addressed to 35 Youth workers coming from project partner countries (Italy, Spain, Morocco, Egypt, France, Greece, Palestine Tunisia, Turkey, Jordan).Participants must be aged from 18 to 40 years old. LLEARNING APPROACH:- Experiential learning and "learning by doing". Participants will be invited to try out things in practice and personally see how everymethod works in real. In each section, various concepts and techniques are discussed prior to demonstrating their practicalapplication with examples and some interactive case studies.- Peer and cooperative learning, including group work, creative brainstorming, role-play, focus group, where participants will worktogether and learn from each other.- Reciprocal Maieutic Approach: RMA is a dialectic method of inquiry and "popular self-analysis" - Drama and theatre in education, as tools for analysis, critical thinking, creativity, communication.
