Experiences for learners and staff of health care and social professions abroad

The project was designed for teachers, students and supervisors in the field of health and social professions, for a 2 or12-week further training abroad or internship, primarily in European countries. Furthermore, countries worldwide were included for the reason of providing them existing expertise and also for the own benefit from the high professional competencies of leading countries. Main objective of this project was the acquisition of skills in working with culturally different clients within the own profession. In addition to the professional exchange, gaining new knowledge and the personal development, the project should meet the raising demands of international networking. Participants of the project were 2 students in the field of health professions and social services of the IB Medical Academy, as well as 2 teachers and supervisors of these schools. One teacher/principial participated in two different mobilities. The project was separated into phases. The period of participant preparation in Germany was followed by the phases of getting to know each other, observation, supervised period and self-independent work. There was a final evaluation accompanied by excursions and work shadowing in other institutions of this professional area. The outcomes described above are completed by the purposes of the consolidation and representation of the own profession abroad, increasing professional and general language skills, arousing interest and decreasing insecurities and anxieties against foreign cultures and possible occupations abroad. The project gave support for better qualifying the students for their professional future by enhancing their personal career opportunities and to improve the personal as well as the professional development of teachers and supervisors through the exchange of professional experience and expertise. In conclusion, this project served the purpose to improve the quality of professional occupations in health professions and professions of social services in all participating countries.
