Exchange 'Talk Democracy, Walk Democracy'

Main aim of the project 'Talk Democracy, Walk Democracy' was to empower young people towards democratic values and democratic citizenship through exploring the symbols and tools of democracy in different societies. Fully achieved objectives of the project were: - sharing knowledge about core democratic institutions and values of any democratic country, such as court, parliament, media and mechanisms of human rights protection; - encouraging participants for active democratic citizenship in the future; Implementing a range of non-formal learning approaches that enhances participants' capacity for being active citizens of and for a democratic country; - providing young people with an opportunity to present their culture, learn about others and share their specific traditions; - exchanging best practices in youth policy and democratic institutions; - developing competences of participants in the spheres of: human rights protection mechanisms, democratic institutions, cultural diversity and youth policy. Dates of the Project: 30th of March - 9th of April 2015 Duration: 10 days Participating countries: Sweden, Estonia, Croatia, Ukraine, Georgia, and Spain. Number of participants: 36 (5 participants and 1 Group Leader from each country). Youth Exchange took place in Rustavi, Georgia. At International Scout Center Rustavi, which is especially designed for the youth projects. Safety and convenience were of a high priority. Almost all partners of the project have experience in working together for several years. Half of the organizations participating in the project are involved in Youth Peace Ambassadors Network, and they work together since 2011. Hosting organization IDC has experience of successful cooperation with the applicant organization AUE on a project August 2014 in Sweden. Project was based on non-formal learning principles. Each partner organization was responsible for selection and preparation process of the participants. Facilitators of the youth exchange were selected from the partner organizations. They were experienced youth workers who work as youth trainers using non-formal education approaches. The exchange project was divided into three parts (see a detailed schedule attached): 1. Informative: learning and sharing of experiences under facilitation. 2. Study visits. 3. Cultural component (networking and social events, informal meetings, cultural activities and sightseeing). At the end the Project participants were provided with possibility to obtain Youthpass. At the final summary meeting the participants have made a general evaluation of the project according to the developed form/questionnaire, provided their impressions and feedback. The participants experienced different forms of non-formal learning, assimilating new knowledge through role games, mutual and experiential learning. After completion, the participants were able to express their ideas easily and more effectively as a result of improved social and communication skills. In addition they got acquainted with Georgia its culture, cuisine and modern history.
