With this latest project, the Lycée classique de Diekirch is trying to tackle a problem that prevents ordinary students as well as high and low achievers alike from deploying their full potential, i.e. lack of motivation. In a background that is strongly marked by a classical approach to teaching, it is often difficult to reach students, who live in a world where modern media have replaced more traditional ones, where students obviously have interests and competences that should be encouraged and developed (for academic, but also professional and economic reasons). Our project therefore aims primarily at bridging the gap between teachers and educators on the one hand, and the students on the other hand so as to increase students' motivation and, by so doing, promote academic excellence.The project will directly involve teachers, but also support staff like educators, psychologists, and the school administration. In the course of the following two years, we are planning to send about 30 colleagues abroad to get specific training in the use of modern media in teaching situations as well as in the field of high and low achievement, as we believe there is a strong link between teaching methodologies and the way students get on at school. Our expectations are that the participants will act as catalysts and spread a spirit of enthusiasm and renewal among colleagues, that they will motivate other colleagues to follow their example, and that they will promote new approaches by presenting them to colleagues and passing on valuable know-how, so that other colleagues will overcome their own inhibitions and try out new ways of teaching as well.Ultimately, the project will boost a renewal in the sense that our school will invest in state-of-the-art equipment, that modern media will become a natural component of teaching, that teachers will gain pleasure and expertise in handling the communication devices that directly appeal to the students, that curricula will be adapted accordingly, and that prospective students and teachers alike will be attracted to a school that truly acknowledges and responds to the challenges of the 21st century.
