f) Frivilligsentralene (Voluntary centres): Frivilligsentralene (The Volunteer Centers) are situated in three different parts of the city, all of them within a range of 7 km from city center. Each Center has a general Manager who is in charge of the daily operations and the volunteers connected to the Center. Stavanger is the Oil Capital of Norway and we have a wealthy population. This makes the contrasts between rich and poor even bigger, and the need for activities that equalize social inequality are therefor important. Activities that promote a healthy way of living are of great interest to the Volunteer Centers. Frivilligsentralene`s main focus is coordinating local voluntary work, encourage volunteering, create meeting places and having an open and inclusive approach to people. They emphasize interdiciplinary collaboration with NGO`s, different associations and clubs, and also local government. Even though Frivilligsentralene are run differently, they all initiate various activities for different people in different situations of life and ages. To name a few; meetingplaces for foreigners who want to practice the Norwegian language, activity days across generations, computer courses for women from minority groups, day-to-day help for people in need of an extra hand etc. These activities are often initiated by the volunteers themselves. To sum up; The Volunteer Centers will meet the needs that arise from people in the various districts of Stavanger, and are concerned with healthrelated avtivities for both young and old people.
- The volunteers will also take part in Fiks Ferigge Ferie (FFF) which is an offer for children of all ages during the summer vacation. Approx 2000 children participate in several different avctivities througout
