Café Quasimodo (aka: Q) is an international Youth Café which is located in the center of Tønsberg. It is part of the Cathedral of Tønsberg and Tønsberg Kirkelige Fellesråd. The leader of the café is the deacon of the Cathedral.Volunteers from all over the world are coming to work here, forming a vibrant team of about 8-10 international youth workers. Our main focus is on refugees, especially on teenagers between 13 and 20 years. Many young refugees who come to Norway are struggling in life due to emotional trauma or other challenges. But also for Norwegian youth, life is not always easy. Many are struggling with social obstacles, educational difficulties, loneliness, lack of friends, past experiences, etc. Therefore our goal is to provide a safe place for them and create an atmosphere of acceptance and inclusion, like a home away from home. Everyone is welcome and supported to feel free being themselves. We want to help them to gain useful life skills, values and awareness on important topics. However, one great key we get to offer them is the opportunity to build strong and healthy relationships that bridge cultures. Quasimodo is open three days a week in the afternoon or evening. We spend a lot of time with the youth who's coming, playing games, talking, playing X-box or soccer table, making music or just hanging out and enjoying our time together. We're offering free food for those who are members (for ca 10€/year). Besides these open café times, we have a lot of different groups which are run by the volunteers. Examples are a filming group, dancing group, baking- and cooking group, girl's nights, arts group, etc, according to the talents and interests of the current volunteers. We are also organising different activities outside the café, like going bowling together, going to a funpark, doing sports outside, playing laser tag or making a campfire in the woods. Our intention is that the youth get more connected with one another and the volunteers. Every Thursday we have 'Mamma Café', where we spend time and eat with mothers and their children who came from areas of war.Aside from the international volunteers we also involve Norwegian youths from town to be part of this project. It is lovely to see the great connections that grow out from it.
