A total of two female and two male volunteers aged 18 to 25 years from four different countries (Hungary, Slovakia, Turkey and Greece) participated in this project. Before their voluntary service the volunteers have finished their university studies or their A level in high school. One volunteer was previously unemployed. The volunteers successfully completed their European voluntary service at the boarding school Schloss Heessen in the city of Hamm. There they mainly responsible for the leisure program of the students (AGs, workshops, sport activities, homework help). They were also responsible for arranging and organizing everyday life in the boarding school (breakfast, accompany students to the classrooms, accompaniment for excursions). The volunteers were closely integrated into the team of staff and regularly took part in team meetings. The volunteers went to the EVS seminars together and had a very close personal connection to each other and staff. The project promoted international and intercultural exchange and understanding of cultural differences, social conditions, traditions and different perspectives. It enabled the volunteers to experience through civic commitment the idea of a lively European neighborhood, to develop sympathy for each other and to reflect on the ideas and opinions of the other. This project provided an opportunity for cross-regional mobility, work experience, personal development and the acquisition of key skills through informal education. During their activity in Schloss Heessen the volunteers were able to use their individual skills to make several offers of activities to the students (e.g. recreational activities, cultural events). Through their caring they contributed to interpersonal exchange and development of new activities in the host organization. This European Voluntary Service project was completed successfully. Thus sending and host organization would like to continue to work with VIA e.V. Ideas for further cooperation were exchanged and are in the process of becoming new projects.
