Kinderfreunde and ICNM are two experienced EVS hosting organisations in Salzburg. Kinderfreunde was hosting David Eneko de Ruiz de Gauna from Spain from May 2015 till February 2016 (10 months). Together with the team of the project they visited different playgrounds in Salzburg and made playground animation for children. Eneko has a university degree in economy but he could not find a job when he had finished university. He is very interested in social economy and therefor would like to do an EVS in a social organisation. Since January 2015 he was in Salzburg. We have already applied for an EVS with him at the October 2014 deadline. As this EVS was not granted Kinderfreunde have decided to employ David on minor employment since January and to pay his room in a student home. We already integrated him in the EVS community and in our activities before he started his EVS. ICNM was hosting Berkin Nalbantli from Turkey from August 2015 till January 2016 (6 months). Berkin supported the team of ICNM at the organisation of the European Youth Award (EYA). This is a pan-European contest to motivate young people to produce socially-valuable digital projects that address the goals defined by the Council of Europe and Europe 2020. Berkin has a Bachelor degree in Communication Design and was employed in a job with a big work load before he started his EVS. He realized that in today’s world we are all surrounded by career concerns and money issues. He hoped that being an EVS volunteer in some other country away home would help him to get over all those temporal matters. He also hoped that exploring a new country, lifestyle, language and culture would start a new era in his life and renew him from top to bottom. Even though these two projects are different (media and children), the objectives are the same. By hosting European volunteers the hosting organizations would like to develop solidarity and to foster understanding and tolerance. The experience of an EVS influences not only the volunteers themselves but also the staff in the hosting organisations and the people they work with, but also their family and friends.
