EVS in NGO: Volunteer Development

With this project we seek to increase the competences, skills and knowledge on intercultural learning, experiental learning and non-formal education among young people in local communities in Norway. We wish to do this by increasing the amount of training, workshops and local activities offered in the local communities in Norway. This will be the main focus of the EVS volunteer for this project. It will be one volunteer carrying out this project, and he/she should have some experience as a volunteer and knowledge about experiental learning, non-formal education as well as training methodology and decision making among youths. These objectives will be reached through several activities and various methods. It can be divided into the following categories: • Develop training and workshops for youth, volunteers and other key persons. The aim of this is the increase their competence on relevant field such as intercultural learning and experimental learning. • Give support and follow-up on volunteers through telephone, email or other communication tools. • Create events in local chapters such as training events or informational events. • Create new and develop materials and instructions for youths, volunteers and other key persons to inspire and help them to increase their competences in intercultural learning and non-formal education. These activities will be carried out using various methods. Some of them require working in-office at a desk, with a computer, using communication tools and computer programs. Others methods will be fascilitating workshops and designing learning session outlines. The results and impact envisaged. The EVS-volunteer will gain organizational experience working in an NGO, as well as increased competence on volunteer management, training, workshops, experiental learning and non-formal education. With these skills and new insights, the EVS-volunteer will be able to shed new light on his/her organization and thus create an impact on the sending organization as well as his/her local community. The project will furthermore result in an increased awareness and knowledge on diversity, youth decision making, intercultural learning and non-formal education amoungs our volunteers and thus inspire to further involvement. The potential long term benefit will be a growth in the number of youths engaged in our organization, and thus an increased impact on society and local communities when it comes to fostering intercultural learning, diversity and non-formal education.
