EVS in high school

The EVS project is coordinated by the association Bureau Information Jeunesse Lorient. It’s a youth Information Center (YIC). Within the framework of its global information mission, the YIC of Lorient welcomes daily young people from 16 to 30 years old. It’s a resource centre, our missions are to welcome, inform and support young people in their research and projects.Since 2012, the YIC of Lorient is also a sending and a coordinating organization for the young people taking part in the EVS program.Activities will take place in 2 high schools (Colbert and Jean-Macé) located in Lorient and Lanester (a city bordering Lorient). Lorient is a city of 60 000 inhabitants, Lorient and its suburbs are the 3rd biggest in Brittany after RENNES and BREST. Lorient is located in Brittany (west coast) and looks to the sea. The three universities gather 6.500 students.In the project « EVS in high school », volunteers will be included in the educational team, in the department of student life and in the language assistants team in the schools. They will participate to the animation of the student life by implementing activities, projects with the students.Below are some tasks that may be entrusted to the volunteers, according to their skills and profiles :- Opening and managing the cafeteria/the students’ meeting room- Proposing cultural, artistic activities, outings, animations like a cinema club, theater or music workshops …- Organising events to highlight the skills and initiatives of the students, for example : creating scenes to present students’ talents- In connection with the teachers and language assistants, the volunteer will talk about his/her culture and country within the classrooms- Providing help and educational support, according to the volunteers wishes and skills, for example, helping student with their homework and possibly in the field of foreign languages- Participating in the work on citizenship and European openness- The volunteer will be associated with educational projects of the school and particularly join cultural school trips allowing the volunteer to discover French heritage, culture and traditions. Common projects will be implemented by the EVS volunteers of the receiving organisations (high schools and YIC) with common working time (elaboration, realization and evaluation of the projects) which will bring occasions of exchange and enriching openness for the schools.The activities can be changed, precised and elobarated depending on the propositions made by the volunteers (their wishes, skills and qualifications) in relation with the expectations of the hosting organisation.This project will allow the volunteer to gain or to develop new skills, fo example in the field of animation, arts, French culture but also in communication in general with all the members of the school community and educational relation with a young public.
