This project was aimed to improve, complete and expand teacher training at the Official School of Languages of Ferrol in the field of evaluation of foreign language learning. One of our essential considerations is to take into account at all times the evaluation process in all areas in order to reach our goals and to guarantee the project success.
In the academic field, evaluation is vital in order to ensure that the learners achieve the established objectives for each level in all skills. A valid reliable evaluation favours the learners to improve their language skills and the achievement of qualifications and certifications which will allow them to incorporate to the labor market and the new enterprise patterns in Europe.
During the academic year 2013-14, founded on a thorough detection of training needs, a permanent trainning plan for the school (PFPP) was iniciated, with a duration of two academic years involving the participation of 77% of the teachers. This PFPP includes courses, semminars and specific workshops relating to the topic of evaluation through out the las couple of years.
With this new action of the European Erasmus + Programme, we had the possibility of completing teacher training at our school on an international level with the attendance of a selected of group of teachers at a specific course concerning the target topic.
The University of Lancarter has a great deal of experience teaching specific courses regarding this topic and the the one offered by the department of Linguistics 'Language Testing at Lancaster' is a model in Europe. Therefore, the opportunity for a group of teachers from the school to take it as a complement and support to the training we are already carrying out would be unique and exceptional as it would undoubtely bring about a possitive effect on both students and staff.
The Norwich Institute for Language Education (NILE) is a teacher training centre with international reputation which holds courses on the field of evaluation and also offers the possibility of designing tailor-made courses for specific groups of teachers adapted to their needs so we considered that this option would completely fullfill the needs of our staff and supplement the training on this field.
Team work and collaborative work and the transmission of knowlodge as it cascades down to the other staff guaranteed the effectiveness and economy of resources. Thus the chosen methodology included the selection of a reduced group of participants in the mobilities for the purpose of training.
