The project "European labour markets – our professional experience" is designed for students from our vocational schools (ernvironment protection, wood industry, geodesy). In statistical terms, Lubelszczyzna is the least developed region of Poland. It is characterized by the highest in the country- more than 30% risk of poverty indicator. In the Strategy of Lublin Province for the years 2014-2020 it is claimed that: indirect benefits resulting from membership in the European Union are underestimated especially in the form of: “technology import, knowledge transfer, open labour market, youth exchanges”. Lublin Province belongs to the stagnation region "characterized by "the syndrome of underdevelopment" which includes the low level of education and qualification of human resources, low productivity, low quality of teaching”. One of the weaknesses of the region is the mismatch between the offer and the process of education (vocational education) to the challenges and needs of modern society, low mobility, little involvement of the population in the process of learning and renewal of their qualifications, and obsolete educational base in vocational education. The reason for the low interest in youth education techniques is the lack of jobs, as well as the prospects of obtaining it. The school educates students from rural areas, mostly from poor families, and often pathological traits. Youth is at risk of falling out of the education system and social exclusion. There is a need to strengthen social and professional position of students. One of the conditions for sustainable socio-economic improvement is the development of modern society able to function in a knowledge-based economy.
The objectives of the project are:
1.supporting the potential development of the region and the adaptation of education and training for the economic development strategy of the Lublin region
2.developing partnerships between vocational education and employment
3.developing basic and transversal skills such as entrepreneurship, digital skills and multilingualism in education and practice.
4.developing appropriate methods of assessment and certification of outcomes-based teaching and the use of instruments which recognition of skills and qualifications outside the country.
A group of 40 participants of the project are students of technical schools who are currently at the initial stage of vocational education. In most families, there is a problem of unemployment, low income and parents’ low education. The social problems of students’ families result in the absence of comprehensive fulfilment of growing and maturing adolescents’ needs. It leads to the lack of access to resources, goods and institutions, restriction of social rights and depravity of needs, and consequently to social exclusion. Due to poor conditions, young people are less mobile and creative, and it significantly reduces their intellectual and professional development. In our school two foreign languages are taught: English and German, both with an insufficient amount of teaching hours devoted to vocational vocabulary. The division of the project participants into two groups is a result of the school’s willingness to provide practical training in two different European regions. Not only will it broaden their professional experience, but also improve their language skills. The low level of practical training and a small investment in the development of the education cause the loss of youth’s interest in education in vocational schools. Consequently, this may result in the collapse of the vocational education and deficit of middle technical staff. Participation in the project and realisation of the objectives will help to reverse this unfavourable trend. It is necessary to awaken and develop activity and creativity among participants. The results of the project are: the increase of young people’s interest in vocational training, acquiring professional language skills, employability through work experience. Language skills in the field of professional vocabulary will be a permanent result of the project. Combined with mobility, they will facilitate the search for job on the European labour market after graduation. We also expect our students to gain additional skills, and to increase opportunities for employment in partner factories of our school. The exchange would take place in the summer of 2016. Youth, after earlier language and cultural training would go to the towns of Bad Freienwalde and Martos. The training programs have been agreed with the foreign employers in the Agreement on the Program Coursework (ECVET). During the month of stay, in addition to work, language and cultural classes will be implemented. Their aim is to acquaint students with the regions of Brandenburg and Andalusia. Implementation and dissemination of the project results will positively affect the development of students’ personalities and the development of the school and the Lublin region.
