Context of the project: The project offered teachers the chance to develop their knowledge and skills, which is vital now that the system of education is changing in Poland, and because the contribution of young Poles in the European job market is increasingly bigger. Teachers, who took part in the project, must equip students – prospective workers with skills and competences necessary to handle the challenges of the European job market and to communicate with co-workers from Europe and other parts of the world. Students from our school (Zespół Szkół nr 5 w Sanoku) are determined to gain vocational skills but they have difficulty mastering the command of a foreign language at the level enabling communication at work. The difficulty is mainly due to their background and lack of linguistic talent. As a result they are discouraged from learning foreign languages outside school and only in the classroom are they exposed to the target language. The teachers’ task is to use modern teaching methods to increase the efficacy of students’ learning and to motivate students to learn in and outside the classroom. Aims of the project: The English language teachers aimed to increase their knowledge in the area of foreign language methodology, and Information and Communication Technology in the classroom. It should make their work more efficient and it will prepare their students to deal with the challenges which are offered by Europe, civilizational progress and the changes in the job market. The aim of the project was also for the teachers to gain the knowledge about the country in which the project was carried out. The teacher should have the factual knowledge of European society, not erroneous stereotypes. Number of participants: 3 teachers took part in this project. The teachers gained knowledge of the most recent methods, techniques and tools in the foreign language classroom, which enable the students of Zespół Szkół Nr 5 to learn more easily and more efficiently, e.g. through creating powerpoint presentations. The teachers shared their knowledge with other teachers of the school through preparing lesson plans, conducting lessons on culture, training meetings, providing authentic materials and aids from the course. The teachers prepared a lesson: ‘Contemporary European’ which promotes the real image of Europe and which abolishes stereotypes. In effect, the teachers instill positive patterns of behavior and prevent prejudices. The teachers organised competitions of knowledge on England and Europe. They also created and sent Animoto films and powerpoint presentations to teachers of Zespół Szkół Nr 5, to other school and to teachers abroad.
