Project "European Volunteers for Nature Conservation" is a continuation to the similar projects held in 2014-2015 and La Team programme implemented by ELF (Eestimaa Looduse Fond/Estonian Fund for Nature) in cooperation with our partners during 2012-2013. The objective of this project is to promote conservation volunteering, young people´s active citizenship through volunteering, foster mutual understanding between young people in different countries, raise awareness of environmental and nature conservation problems in general. Volunteers from Belarus and Latvia will participate and help to organize volunteer conservation projects in Estonia during 6 months. In addition, they have opportunity to assist scientist in field work, do wildlife monitoring and attend several volunteer training sessions to get knowledge about health and safety, working with power-tools etc. The main volunteer activities include assisting and conducting different habitat management and restoration projects along with other international and local volunteers. The role includes communication with participating volunteers, occasionally taking care of transport, catering, accommodation, conservation works, tools, leisure, domestic and welfare aspects of projects. Volunteers will write a blog about their experiences to share it with a wider audience. During the first half of the service, the volunteers will learn about our organization and participate in our conservation holidays to become acquainted with the essence and objective of our organization and our activities. Also the specialized trainings take place during the first two months of the service. In July, August and September volunteers will co-lead international conservation holidays together with local Estonian volunteers. The project promotes active citizenship that the local communities benefit. Participating organizations have an opportunity to create more long term projects in order to raise awareness of the importance of conservation volunteering in restoring and managing European landscapes, thus also contirbuting to mitigation of climate change.
