European voluntary services of young germans in portuguese social organizations
Date du début: 1 août 2015, Date de fin: 31 juil. 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The planned project is a European Voluntary Service project. The EVS program enables young people to gather intercultural, social-political and personal experiences in a different culture, by volunteering abroad. In a world more and more accessible in reality and virtually, more and more young adults wish to make experiences in foreign countries, be it for shorter visits or longer stays. On the other hand, EOS sees the urgent need to help young people from 16 onwards having access to a broader informal education, making meaningful experience and to acquiring soft skills. Many young people face unemployment due to a lack of general skills. It is absolutely necessary to fill in this gap and support young people in their learning processes. In this context, Portugal has been identified as partner country, a Southern European country which is exposed much more than Germany to massive economic problems, to unemployment of young people and Mediterranean cultural background. A broader understanding of the structures, thoughts and living conditions of our European neighbours is desirable in order to enhance the ability to find European solutions to the challenges of our societies. The present project gives the opportunity to 4 young adults aged between 18-30 years to live and work at a host institution in a European country for one year. They realize socially meaningful and beneficial activities in a protected environment, and thereby enrich, discover and cultivate their own personalities through the informal learning experiences of daily work. Activities include, for example, work with people with special needs or elderly people. This will also help them in their quest for professional orientation. The volunteers receive counseling and accompaniment of experienced professionals in their chosen field of activity. Seminar days and language courses will complement the project measures provided to the volunteers.
