European Union Centre of Excellence at National Taiwan University

National Taiwan University has decided to apply to establish the EU Centre of Excellence for the following reasons. 1. NTU is a world-class interdisciplinary university and one of the Chinese-speaking world’s flagship educational institutions. 2. NTU is the host university of the European Union Centre in Taiwan (EUTW), jointly created by the European Union and the consortium of seven Taiwanese universities with NTU as the lead university in 2009.3. The president of NTU, a leading PI of FP7, has already committed to continue the work on deepening and widening the EU Studies in all academic fields based on the existing network and foundation.4. The existing network of European Union Centre in Taiwan will be inherited by the JM Centre of Excellence.The creation of the JM Centre of Excellence at NTU aims to meet the objectives of this Action in the following ways:1. It will gather together the expertise of all high level experts within National Taiwan University (NTU).2. It will develop synergies between various disciplines and resources in European Union studies in Taiwan. 3. It will create joint transnational activities and structural links with academic institutions in other countries. 4. It will ensure more openness to civil society. In brief, the relevance of this Jean Monnet Centres of Excellence is to contribute to Taiwanese citizens' understanding of the EU. Here are the main outputs:➢National Activities: National Student Workshop on EU Studies, EU Bi-monthly Forum, Taiwan-Europe forum on the environment and science, The Taiwan European Culture Forum, Cross-Strait EU Academic Forum, Publication of Get to Know Europe Book Series, International Conference, Dialogues with EU Officers.➢Activities in National Taiwan University: Create EU Teaching Community, European and EU Studies Programme, Building Dual Degree, Fellowship Programme, Scholarship, Publication of Academic Book Series, EU Study Area in NTU Library, NTU EU Weeks.
