European Position Determination System - InterRegional Co-operation (EUPOS - IRC)
Date du début: 30 sept. 2006, Date de fin: 30 déc. 2007 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Satellite-based navigation and positioning systems like GPS are becoming an ever more important part of our daily lives, which does not only apply to driving. Such systems and their applications also promise to play a significant role in various aspects of regional planning. For instance, geoinformation data can inform regional policy decisions in fields such as the environment (e.g. through emission monitoring systems), transportation management, risk prevention or urban and landscape planning. Objectives EUPOS-IRC (“European Position Determination System-InterRegional Co-operation”) aims to analyse and discuss opportunities for using GPS-like systems in the participating regions and to exchange and transfer know-how related to the use of these technologies. It also aims to increase awareness on the use of positioning systems as a tool for regional development. Results EUPOS-IRC improves the partners’ knowledge base on the use of satellite and positioning systems and geoinformation data and helps to create a network of related experts. Regional authorities, in particular those in the new EU member states, will improve their understanding on how to use the specific systems and technologies as a tool for their regional development. Activities include meetings and workshops, development of reports and creation of EUPOS-IRC Know-how offices in the new member states.
