European Masters in Ludic Interfaces
European Masters in Ludic Interfaces
Date du début: 1 oct. 2009,
Ludic Interfaces are devices connecting human interactors in a playful manner with technical systems like computer programmes, game consoles, web applications or even complete buildings. Ludic interfaces are creative solutions and might form the basis for a new form of literacy and cultural technique for the 21st century. These interfaces are of high relevance for a future Europe as they contribute to current and upcoming façets of society: Complex technical systems will be better accessible with a higher degree of playfulness. Interfaces will connect work with play. The wide range of the application area encompasses the arts & the cultural sector, health, heritage, ethics & education. The project will develop a European Masters in Ludic Interfaces producing graduates with the best range of interdisciplinary expertise, ranging from computer games, artistic experiment, interactive media, social networks, & interface culture. The Joint Masters degree programme will be developed across 4 European institutions, based on existing programmes in Creative Games, Interface Cultures, & Multimedia run by the partner institutions.Once developed this programme will target home students in each respective partner country, students from across Europe, as well as potential Erasmus Mundus candidates. The main activities of this project will involve a detailed study of the validation requirements, funding of programmes & the aligning of curricula and scoping of each institution's capabilities to deliver the programme or parts of the programme. This project will in particular consist of the following key activities:- An initial meeting - to present current procedures for validating degree programmes and typical timescales of each partner organisation; existing programmes will be identified and the project partners will map out the commonalities- Institutional visits for the purpose of familiarisation with the institutions & their procedures- Programme development: programme & module specifications; identification of typical patterns & combinations of delivery between institutions & support services required- Validation timetables- Marketing & admissions- Pilot with current students on similar programmes undertaking visits to another partner to evaluate proposals in their entirety funded under Erasmus student mobilityThe expected outcomes of the projects are: a fully developed joint master programme across 4 European institutions, with complete procedures and identified support mechanisms. Formal partnerships with world leading Media Centres ,i.e. National innovation hubs located in the partner cities. The new programme will develop appropriate modes for teaching and learning, facilitating an attractive learning experience for students on the programme and a much wider audience via public teleteaching lectures and student exhibitions in the media centres. Teleteaching, virtual student and staff rooms will in themselves serve as ludic interfaces amongst the student cohort & staff located in different cities and countries. The degree programme will train interface and games designers striving for a European common perspective, and create an incubation environment for technical tools, social networking and critical theory. The training provided by the programme will create a creative universalist who synthesises what current specialist programmes only deliver in parts. The expected impact on the socio-technical landscape is the emergence of a new discipline of Ludic Interfaces, a practice based relationship of universities and media centres and the formation of a paradigm for playful interaction. The programme will provide learning, teaching and research platform and a public arena to merge artistic, technical, social and critical issues. The developments are expected to contribute to a sustainable economic growth and to increase the accessibility of complex technical systems as well as the creativity and self-fulfilment of their users.
