European Master in Comparative Morphology
Date du début: 1 oct. 2010,

The project aims at building an European Master curriculum in Comparative Morphology (120 ECTS credits) providing in depth knowledge and practical skills in embryology, gross and microscopic anatomy of farm, pet and laboratory animals. The programme addresses the need for highly qualified graduates in the field of comparative morphology. The international and multidisciplinary approach of the programme enables students to become familiar with aspects of comparative morphology in research (e.g. neuroanatomy of mice) and will result in increasing student's career opportunities beyond an academic or research environment (e.g. diagnostic imaging). To date no Master programme (national nor European) covers these aspects. Target group: Graduates having a degree in life sciences. Application by lifelong learners is strongly motivated and as such learners having a position in research or industry will be encouraged.Main activities: A network of universities active in comparative morphology together with the EAVA will develop a modular curriculum that aims to result in expert morphologists. The needs of European research institutes, colleges (e.g. College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging), industries and academia will be used as a basis to develop the course content and structure. Promotion of student and teacher mobility will be strongly encouraged. Nevertheless ICT-applications to enable distance learning, e.g. virtual microscopy, will be developed. Students should have the opportunity to take a full programme or to participate in elective modules that meet specific professional interests. In order to attract students and to dissiminate the programme and its teaching material, the language of the lectures and material will be English.Expected output: A joint master degree in Comparative Morphology resulting in well-trained morphologists for both academia and industry. This programme will be implemented in the final phase of the project.
