European Ecotourism Knowledge Network
Date du début: 1 déc. 2010,

The project aims to create an Ecotourism knowledge network to bring together a variety of stakeholders -education & training institutions, ecotourism businesses, associations & NGOs related to ecotourism/sustainable tourism, certification agencies, ICT experts & research institutes- and develop innovative evaluation tools and learning products for sharing knowledge among the network and facilitating quality certification standards of ecotourism businesses through their compliance with the European Ecotourism Labelling Standard (EETLS). This was developed by the Leonardo co-funded Eco-Destinet project that harmonised existing ecotourism quality labels, through a set of baseline criteria in line with the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria and international best practice. ECOLNET takes the work of Eco-Destinet much further: EETLS criteria and indicators are refined and a range of media are used to reach the target groups, such as internet, mobile phones, video/audio records of activities and installations, to enable an integrated evaluation of the ecotourism business and promote active "learning through evaluation", starting from the client's level up to the business, association, certification agency, education provider, policy maker. The project products -a variety of e-evaluation tools and learning packages- are translated in the 9 languages of the project partners and will be offered for use by tourism associations, certification agencies and post-secondary or tertiary education institutions for non-formal and formal learning in the field of sustainable tourism; while the European Ecotourism online community supports the use of the products and spreads widely the benefits of experience sharing and peer learning, stressing the advantages of quality upgrading through certification with an expected impact on improved competitiveness of tourism businesses, especially small ones. 9 national workshops and an international conference complement the dissemination effort.
