European Diploma in Urban Security
Date du début: 1 oct. 2011,

The goal of the European Diploma project is to implement the European Certificate (ECUS) and the European Executive Master in Urban Security (EEMUS), which have been developed by a first LLP project of the consortium. With this initiative 6 European universities and the European Forum for Urban Security, a network of 300 local and regional authorities working together on all issues of crime prevention, want to respond with a genuinely new offer to a growing demand for training due to the emergence of new professions at municipalities and regions all over Europe, which deal with security and crime prevention. The first project set the stage. It confirmed through a survey the interest of local and regional authorities in such a programme. It analysed the existing training market concluding the lack of a genuinely interdisciplinary and a truly European programme. It brought together universities that can teach such a programme and dealt with the question of how they could propose such programme, which led to the development of the ECUS/EEMUS. It allowed universities in co-operation with practitioners to design a curriculum, not as a collecting of courses of different disciplines, but as a set of 8 interdisciplinary modules addressing the key issues of urban security, which are complemented with an internship abroad and a master’s thesis. Finally, it created an e-learning platform allowing proposing the programme as a full e-learning programme, making it accessible to initial and continuos- learning student all over Europe. This project is the logical next step. It wants to use the already developed blueprints for the training programme, to fill the already created e-learning platform by creating in a first year the outlined eight e-learning modules and by teaching the programme in a second year. At the end, a virtual campus will be running and a first group of students will have accomplished the programme, preparing the programme to run on its own there forth.
