European continuing professional development for Irthlingborough Infant school
Date du début: 1 sept. 2014, Date de fin: 31 août 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

We are a large Infant and Nursery school with limited cultural diversity and therefore saw the opportunity to develop wider cultural understanding across the school and develop strong links with education across the European community, by engaging in a European project at a level that was new, creative and exciting for the school, pupils and the wider school community. This is our first time engaging in a European partnership and have been keen to ensure that links are made and that the school as a whole becomes more globally aware. Our European Continuing professional development project, is a mobility project that aimed to develop teaching and learning and to provide a European context to our teaching in the whole school. Our Objectives were to: Develop a motivating, creative and inspiring curriculum for future learning, based on clear pedagogy and proven practice. To develop key basic skills across the curriculum for all teaching staff, with impact on young children's learning outcomes. To develop an understanding of some of our European partners in terms of culture, diversity as well as education. Therefore, in order to achieve our objectives, we engaged in staff mobility abroad through the structured training routes. We have sent a range of teachers and are certain that this has had maximum impact of the training across the whole school and nursery. We see that teachers have worked to make new contacts with European partners in a structured way for the first time in our school and have been able to implement new approaches that have enhanced our school curriculum and provided new and engaging opportunities for our children. Our project has resulted in us making links with schools and engage in a eTwinning project which is a new venture for our school. This project has enabled our school to take advantage of some of the best education providers across Europe which have provided the opportunity to develop professional development for all our staff, which involved not only the teachers attending the courses but also those who indirectly benefited from the dissemination and implementation of new skills, knowledge and competencies. These included, teaching and non-teaching staff within our school and those within our wider network of schools part of the Pilgrim learning partnership. Overall, our project involved attendance in structured training in 3 different countries in Europe, namely Finland, Italy and Spain. 8 members of staff attended structured training courses with a duration of 7 days each on a number of subject areas. Finland: leadership in Education, the Finnish Educational System Italy: Creative Teaching Approaches in early Years and Pre-school education Spain: Teaching Literacy Through Visual Narrative We aimed to ensure the project had long term impact by teachers producing tool kits and guidance to be used by all staff to ensure sustainability. We were able to do so as the 8 staff who attended the course were selected based on their range of skills and experiences and motivation to develop their own professional skills as well as developing the schools expertise in developing an inspiring curriculum upon their return from the different courses attended. These are providing long term benefits to the school and the education offered to its young children including improvement in attainment at FS and KS1 in a number of areas. A number of dissemination activities have taken place to ensure our project would impact on the wider educational community. These included: Website notices Newsletters Notices to parents Dissemination at the Pilgrim meetings Governors presentations Staff meetings and presentations after each course attended (A number of materials can be downloaded from: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/fc3r2r5waspusr4/AADE-GgyqjOeNuO0E6VuzHjNa?dl=0) Some sample documents have been added to the annexes area to show the type of evidence used within school. Our project has inspired other schools to take on such European opportunities and 3 new school were encouraged and supported by the school in submitting an application last round. They have been successful and we hope this will impact even further in the education we provide to our children in our local area. The impact has been clear in the results at the end of Reception and the development of the area. The results have been maintained in Key stage one and engagement in homework has improved since using the skills from the visual literacy course. The work has been creative and inspiring and has developed the curriculum. Basic skills have been developed and the impact of this has been seen through raised attainment and progress in Foundation Stage. The long term impact will be the legacy of moving forward with E twinning and strengthening European links, ensuring developing cultural and educational improvements.
