Europe, shipbuilding and children in Redon, France
Date du début: 1 janv. 2016, Date de fin: 31 déc. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

In this project, we want a European volunteer from Romania, Alexandra Ghit, to participate in all the activities carried out by the museum of shipbuilding of Redon, as well as in other local youth activities of the hosting organisation, MAPAR. The volunteer will be integrated in the staff team, and especially in the actions with the children visiting the museum (groups, individuals with their families, both local and tourists) and she will also cooperate with all the French volunteers active in the museum. Most of them are retired (some are old marines or sailors), and we find this relationship between the generations very important and fruitful for everyone, as the volunteer learns about our History, brings fresh ideas and inspiration, brings valuable tools and aspects from her generation (for example, the use of new technologies, new ideas for activities with children) and from her own country. Her presence is a big source of exchange between different people and generations and will contribute significantly to the attractiveness of cultural activities in Redon. The activities in which Alexandra will be involved vary from organizing workshops with the "Canal class" for children, receiving visitors and tourists and informing them of the museum exhibits, taking part in events and activities organized by the museum in the community, promoting the Museum and its unique treasure, developing creative ways of making history known and attractive and discovering how the port and the shipbuilding industry in Redon impacted the life of families living there, conducting research on topics related to the Museum activity, meeting other EVS volunteers already present in Redon, and creating together with them initiatives and activities in the local community to promote EVS and their experience as well as promoting her own culture and specific traditions and beliefs from Romania. The project will be based on non-formal education methods, strongly emphasizing the importance of the volunteer taking part in all the phases of the projects. The hosting organization uses as much as possible a pedagogy of participation with the volunteers : to give them the opportunity to manage their own projects on an autonomous way (with our support), to make so that they take initiatives, to develop their citizen awareness. We try as much as we can to mix the nationalities of the volunteers we are hosting, to create a real cultural diversity, which is an added value in their learning experience. As a result of her involvement in this project, Alexandra will have a lot to gain in terms of acquiring new competences and improving her already existing skills, she will develop strong French language skills, the ability to transform history into concrete playful workshops for children, she will develop strong knowledge of the Redon region, the shipbuilding industry and its links to everyday life, she will become more independent, more self-confident and more able to manage projects, understanding how European projects work. In the long term, she will acquire a more developed sense of citizenship and active participation, which she will surely implement in her life after EVS, getting involved in her local community and other NGOs and institutions, continuing her studies and integrating her learning experience in her future career.
