Europe R Us: We are British, We are Europeans
Date du début: 1 févr. 2015, Date de fin: 31 août 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

We proposed project: “Europe R us: We are British, We are Europeans” aims at raising a European awareness among disadvantaged young people and increasing their democratic participation. The project will initiate an open dialogue and discussion between disadvantaged young people and decision-makers on some of the most challenging and important issues to young people: lack of opportunities, disengagement and social exclusion of disadvantaged young people, the UK’s European perspective, European identity and citizenship. The project intends to sustain this link of communication between the participants and decision-makers and ensure that European opportunities, particularly Erasmus + Programme, reach for those who need it most. The debates and decision-making by political circles and the media often excludes those most affected, and those who hold the key to improving the situation – young people themselves. The proposed project would like to address this gap and encourage an open and profound dialogue between estranged and alienated sides. We aim to capture young people’s interests and imagination, help them to see different options available to them transforming aspirations into reality and empower them with knowledge, skills and competencies. The project consists of the activities selected and designed by young people themselves: project information days aimed at face-to-face promotion of the project, short film on the youth issues and the main activity, Youth Participation Week, which will bring together young people and decision-makers for 5 days to discuss and debate over challenging issues. The project aims to impact on disadvantaged young people’s personal and professional development that would contribute to their participation in a democratic life. The policy makers will take back the concerns, feelings and ideas of the young people that will inform their decision-making process. The tangible outcomes of the project will be a short film on youth issues and a Youth Manifesto detailing the issues discussed during the project, its findings and recommendations. The project will target over hundred young people, aged 16 to 30, who represent various disadvantaged groups (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, ex-offenders, refugees and people with multiple disadvantages) living in the deprived areas of London. We aim to capture their interest to be involved in the youth activities, help them to see different options available to them through Erasmus + Programme, transform their aspirations into reality and empower them with knowledge, skills and competencies to influence decision-making process at local, national and European levels. The project offers various interactive activities selected and designed by young people themselves as authors of this project idea. The project ethos is to bring as many disadvantaged young people as possible into democratic process and we intend to achieve this through providing the participants a bridge to Europe.
