Europe in the Global Economy
Date du début: 1 sept. 2014, Date de fin: 31 août 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The deeper rationale behind the project is the insight that regional integration and global economic integration are complementary: To prosper further, the European Union needs the outside world as much as it needs to foster and secure European integration. Regional and global integration need to interact not only to provide markets and production locations, but also and increasingly so as a source of ideas and finally successful innovations, which are at the heart of wealth creation. The proposed Jean Monnet Chair intends to take three actions in this direction, which together address all four activities requested from a Jean Monnet Chair: First, realizing that cross-fertilization across cultures and disciplines is of high importance in creating innovative capacity, existing summer schools for non-European students on European integration and Europe’s role in the world economy will be embodied into the official curriculum of the home institution and opened to an increasing number of students (home institution and Erasmus students) from various fields of studies. Second, the approach to teaching will be directed towards research and project-oriented learning in multi-cultural teams. This provides future professional with the necessary skills for a labour market. The major challenge of the project is to attract home institution students. This requires the development of new forms of study material and study formats to enable participation. This approach is in line with the strategic development objectives of the home university, which provides strong support for such new teaching approaches. Third, a deepened continuation of a research collaboration on European and Global Banking with Maastricht University, a new research collaboration with researchers at Warsaw University, and the development of a European-Australian research collaboration, aiming at mentoring a young generation of researchers in European union studies.
