TERMINÉ
The European Union is more than a pooling of sovereignty. It is based on a common history, a shared sense of culture and centuries of varied forms of political integration between nations. However, especially in the UK, there is much misunderstanding both of the processes and procedures of the EU and of the history that has brought us to this point. Having established the module Europe: From Continent to Community in 2008, Dr Lieberman has seen europhobe students with no understanding of the EU arrive at Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU), and well informed adults emerge from its undergraduate politics and international relations programs. At this juncture in the political landscape in the UK, with the current government threatening a referendum on continued EU membership, it seems ever more important to ensure that today's youth-tomorrow's voters, citizens and politicians-are well informed Europeans. Based on this success Dr Lieberman has decided to launch a new degree program at CCCU; European Politics. At level 4, Europe: From Continent to Community will be the foundation upon which the new degree rests, where students learn about the integration process, the factors that led to the formation of the Union and the reasons we are better together, united in diversity, than apart and separated by difference. 1. Europe: From Continent to Community. 50 hour first-year introduction to the EU module, forming part of the BSc in European Politics, International Relations and Politics. Including taught sessions, blended learning, policy debates and plenary simulation. 2. Jean Monnet Mini Classes: 10 hours of EU environmental policy teaching to support proposed Jean Monnet Module: 1)"The Politics of Economics" (Dr John Fitzgibbon) and 2) Jean Monnet Chair Module "Quo Vadis" (Dr Amelia Hadfield)3. Jean Monnet Master Classes: 2 European environmental policy workshops to support MSc research students 4. WWI remembrance and understanding trip to Northern France
