Europe Cultural Crisol (Melting Pot)

We created a musical called Melting Pot. The Project objectives were different. First of all we looked for an improvement in the students’ and teachers’ linguistic competences in English. Next we wanted our students to write a musical play which reflected the common values enhanced by the Permanent Learning Programmes: to make our cultures come closer and to reinforce the feeling of European Citizenship, our common but different reference. And all the work was done in cooperation with the other countries, to get to know about each other and establish some links through the universal languages of music, dance and theatre. We created a play which dealt with six fundamental issues: peace, democracy, tolerance, and fight against racism, sex and age discrimination. Moreover, we added a little show of our cultures and traditions and the places where we live, to finish with the performance of a song which showed our union in this wonderful experience we went through. All these matters were mixed inside our Melting Pot, a metal container which was formerly used to mix different metals to create a newer stronger mixture. We metaphorically mixed our cultures to create a crisol from them, a newer and stronger Europe, more fraternal and multicultural. There were two performances of the musical in each country. We did different activities to introduce our partners to the different schools, such as presentations, contests, lip-dub videos, etc.We established contact via internet between teachers and pupils through the creation of blogs, social networking groups, twinspace, videocalls and e-mail. We recorded music and dance and uploaded to visual platforms to share. The students and teachers wrote the script and composed the music and lyrics, and some traditional folklore music was included as well. There were also video presentations in the performance about each country. We created our own promoting materials like posters, leaflets, invitations.
