TERMINÉ
OSZ Lotis is an Oberstufenzentrum (Higher Education Centre similar to College of Further Education) for many different school careers and professional careers necessitating vocational training. All courses are based on the School Development Program of 2014. Lessons are focused on the competent and independently acting individual. All courses are to be based on an intern curriculum with the emphasis on communication, which also includes promotion of language competence in the field of technical and foreign languages. Additionally our students need to be helped in developing social and intercultural competences and to “see beyond their noses”.
This project within the staff mobility program takes into account the variant conditions of our trainees: apprentices in logistics or travel agents have different needs and interests from those of warehouse workers, the trainees must be supported differently from students on their way to a college degree. Therefore we aimed at different goals that are on the one hand depending on the course of education and on the other hand across the departments of our school.
The establishment of teaching arrangements being more oriented at the operational reality and demanding more independence/initiative from the apprentices are in the centre of mobilizing teaching personnel in the vocational field. By sitting in on classes at our partner schools in the Netherlands (Maastricht) and Poland (Poznan), our heads of professional fields and teachers in the fields of forwarding agents, logistics and tourism were to gain best practice experiences, which can be immediately integrated in the planned curriculum development of our school.
But cross-departmentally the already existing good international profile of our school is to be extended and intensified by new bilateral and multinational projects and partnerships, referring to further development of the taken path, i.e. acting-oriented and self-organized teaching and language competence. In this respect, we plan to use the workshops for project management in order to improve our organizational competences and to build up new contacts with foreign schools.
The participants in this project within the staff mobility program represent a cross section of our staff: experienced and young colleagues, male and female, who are teaching different general and vocational subjects and partly work in intermediate management functions. By this mixture we could ensure a large dissemination within the complete staff.
The job shadowing in the Netherlands and Poland consisted of lesson visits, talks with colleagues on site, partly in the form of “speed-dating”, lectures about the basis of teaching methods and visits of businesses, and it led to new discoveries in the area of teaching in learning fields and modularization. The experience was presented in front of the staff, discussed and will be considered in our work on the curriculum.
The structured courses delivered ample information for the single stages of executing a project, informed about different possibilities of support in international projects and opened up space for intense discussions of the topics in different working groups. This led to a profound knowledge of working in a project of the participants – concerning the planning as well as the application and execution and evaluation. Additionally new contacts evolved, a new project concerning anti-gypsy, supported by the EVZ, will be executed together with secondary schools in Lublin / Poland and Trikala / Greece; a project within the second program is in planning.
All in all the interest and readiness for international work in our school has clearly risen, there now are more colleagues who want to enlarge international contacts.
