TERMINÉ
The project ‘Europe, my second homeland. Development of languages skills of the teachers' was realised in Zespol Szkol Publicznych in Kokoszkowy. Students between 5 – 15 y.o. learn in the school. They live in the municipality of Starogard Gdanski. The main assumption of the project was a gain of teachers’ language skills that allowed to implement positive attitude and better motivation for learning English and develop children’ social skills to prevent prejudices.
The aims of the project included:
- development of teachers’ language skills,
- implementation of some elements of the European education,
- gaining skills allowing teachers to use ITC,
- reinforcement of international cooperation and engagement in international educational projects,
- introduction of new methods and techniques of teaching and teachers’ aids,
- improvement of communication skills, taking a positive attitude to otherness,
- introduction of activities promoting education of other languages,
- extension of the offer of extra classes by adding new classes which develop pupils' languages skills.
Project’s participants:
Teachers of early education took part in the project. Their aim was (in the school year 2014/2015) to gain and improve language skills and participate actively in international educational projects in the future. Participants had worked in the school for several years before the project, all owned a proper education and qualifications. They have been engaged in many different projects in the school as well as for the local community. Participants underlined their motivation to self-development and the neccessity of gaining new skills.
Activities connected with the project:
These activities included: pre-mobilities activities (meetings with the coordinator about logistics issues, practical and organizational matters, traditions in the GB, an intensive language course in Poland), mobilities (language courses and one methodical course), post-mobilities activities, which promoted the project: extra classes developing English skills of students aged 8 – 10 y.o., regular art, dancing, language's workshops, tourist and reading meetings for children and parents, cooperation with local institutions, summative meeting with invited guests, workshops for teachers from ZSP and the municipality of Starogard Gdanski, presentation of teaching methods provided on the courses in Oxford and the courses’ materials, language and art competitions for pupils, multimedia presentations about the GB and the whole project for students and parents, exhibition of authentic materials and photos, changing the materials into teachers’ aids, articles about all the activities on the school website, the website of the municipality of Starogard Gdanski, Facebook, in local newspapers, ‘English corner’ on the board on school’s hall, cooperation with schools from the Czech Republic and Hungary, engagement in international educational projects. Development of language skills has been continued via e-learning platform of The Lake School of English Oxford.
Project’s results, long-rage advantages:
- gaining new qualifications and skills,
- improvement of the learning quality of the school and its prestigue on the local educational market,
- gaininig technological skills,
- preparing and using new didactical materials, using authentic materials to make the lessons more attractive,
- introduction of innovative methods of teaching,
- individualization of the process of learning by adjustment methods and techniques to the students’ needs and interests,
- development of students and teachers’ social skills by introducing elements of European and multicultural education, improvement of the European aspect of the school,
- creating interests in being the EU citizens at the youngest students,
- usage of some techniques of class management,
- extension of the school offer of extra classes,
- starting and continuation of international educational projects,
- prevention of prejudices and discriminations,
- development of cooperation with local institutions, eg. The Public Library in Kokoszkowy.
