In the framework of our project: Europe, a Chance to Work – Sweet Challenge we carry out 3 professional trainings in November 2015, March and November 2016. 10 cook and 10 confectioner students will be provided the opportunity to take part in a professional training course in different hotels in Thüringen. This project was developed by our school – Pesti Barnabás Food Industrial Secondary Technical and Vocational School – in cooperation with our German partner Sigmundsburg Haus Werraquelle LTD. All essential documents are written in Hungarian and German. The project primarily offers opportunities for students to participate in a training in a foreign language environment. This project will help students to develop the key competences they need for life-long-learning. Students can successfully apply these competences not only in their further education but also they will make them open to the world. Moreover these key competences enable students to become self-maintained professionals. Furthermore, participating teachers will be able to deepen their knowledge in preparing, organising and managing this project, and choosing suitable students, keeping contacts and amalgamating the students’ results gained abroad into their end of term grade. For us this project provides a great opportunity to keep contacts, co-operate, reconsider our objectives and system of evaluation and to broaden our horizons. In the preparatory phase along with our German partner we took the initial steps concerning the project and signed the co-operating contract. Then the project team with the help of the specialised teachers and the form teachers will choose the 10 students and the 4 extra students. An educational contract will be signed with the students. This contract will include the required learning modules: students will be aware of the terms of their professional training. Students will attend preparatory courses, their mental training will be held by our German partner. The 2nd phase is the mobility itself. Students with the co-ordinator teacher will travel to Siegmundsburg where they will attend a communicative training combined with a day trip. Next day students will be assigned to their training places. The time for monitoring visit is the fifth day when the partner’s representatives evaluate the students’ work. Evaluation is based on the ECVET evaluation system. Learning modules were developed similarly both for cooks and confectioners, but technical features were considered, too. Mentors will evaluate the accomplishment of these modules. The co-ordinator teacher will travel home after this monitoring visit, while students continue their training with the help of their mentors in a co-operating team. Students will get a full board with accommodation at their training places. Official registers have to be kept which will be checked by the mentors. Day 27/28 of the training is the evaluation time when the co-ordinator teacher will also be there. Then the students will travel home with their co-ordinator teacher. The main aims of the last phase are to receive the Europass Mobility and promoting the project. Students will perform their presentations at home. In order to conclude the experience, introduce the presentations and evaluations a conference will be organised by the project team. We will organise an exhibition of the photos taken during the training, our presentations will be uploaded on our school’s website, and an interview with our head-master will be published in a local newspaper. Also in our staff meeting the project will be one of the main issues. The students will successfully accomplish their training abroad, which will strengthen their self-confidence, and will make them open to the world. They will realise they can communicate in a foreign language successfully, can work in a team co-operating with their colleagues, can organise and prepare work processes and can take orders. Not only will they do parts of the work but also will have a view on the whole work process. This challenge, self-maintainment and success will make students motivated. Not only will they have a greater interest in language learning but also other subjects can have the beneficial effects. Because of this competitive spirit basic changes will be triggered by the realisation of this project in the life of our school. Promoting the successful project can increase the number of students applying to our school. Increasing motivation can reduce the number of students’ drop-outs. Accepting the results of this training will trigger the reconsidering, renewing of the learning activities in school, the educational programmes and policies. The appearance of these newly qualified professionals with modern knowledge and practical skills, meeting the expectation of food industry; being able to take up challenges and live up to the expectations will have beneficial effects on the region’s labour market.
