The vocational school Henri Dunant prepares for vocational high school diplomas Management-administration, Customer and users relationship Management, Safety & Prevention (tertiary vocational high school diplomas) and Works of the Building option Metalwork and Option Aluminum, Glass and Materials of Synthesis (vocational high school diplomas of the building). The welcomed public mainly comes from unprivileged backgrounds, and for a significant number of non French-speaking families origin.
The project -introduced by 4 teachers- consists in settling the teaching of a non-linguistic discipline (economics & law) in the tertiary sector trainings, in opening European classes, and in promoting the European opening in the high school through transverse actions.
To develop non-linguistic teachings in English language, it is to give more chances in terms of employability, it’s also to give means of better succeeding of the continuation of studies (essentially in BTS (TWO-YEAR TECHNICAL DEGREE). To develop the practice of English in the vocational school out of language courses and to promote a linguistic culture, it is to work on the European citizenship and to encourage the European mobility. Moreover, it’s a way to secure employability.
Three axes will be favored in the implementation of the D.N.L. and in the opening of European classes to the vocational high school Henri Dunant:
- to develop the capacities of the vocational high school students of the tertiary domains to higher education by improving and by valuing their language skills, facilitate the mobility of the vocational high school students of the international tertiary domains through the periods of training in companies and organizations,
- to develop a linguistic continuity in the high school, by facilitating the bilingualism in the external communication (by leaning, in the classes, on the eTwinning platform), by introducing educational activities in English language except D.N.L. (Theater in English, exhibitions, workshops),
- to allow all the vocational school students and the educational community to get involved in this process (to extend the education of D.N.L. to the building training courses, to increase the implication of all the voluntary staffs in the activities in English language), to implant in the high school of new foreign languages (for example German, practised to the middle school by many students and stopped in the entrance to the high school, for lack of teaching).
The project leans on 4 professors, 3 professors in capacity to teach a D.N.L. in English language (One teacher only received the certification to date) and a professor information officer who, through the ways(means) which proposes the center of documentation and orientation of the high school, will pilot the cultural dimension of the project, but who will also have an important role in the external communication through the educational coordination of the digital working space (e-lyco IT site of the high school) which she takes care.
To continue this process which is already at work, it is necessary to train 4 teachers concerned in an English language ability in educational situation, it is also necessary to familiarize them in the use of tools facilitating the educational contacts with other European schools (eTwinning ), it is finally important to train them to develop an European culture through multiple partnerships.
The long-term objectives for the vocational high school Henri Dunant is to develop an European culture among a population of mainly European high school students in the respect for all, and to strengthen the attraction of the proposed trainings, so tertiary as the building, by a consolidation of the pursuits of studies post-vocational high school diploma, and by the development of an European mobility facilitating the employability.
