Euromediation secucities

The Euromediation working group has as general objectives:1. Promote the knowledge and the comparison of mediationpractices activated at a local levels, in a European context,in its various areas of application (social, scholastic, penal,domestic, intercultural);2. Determine a set of approach parameters to the differentforms of mediation in different urban contexts shared by theworkgroup;3. Define a theoretical reference framework, which can beconnected, through the acquisition of a shared terminology,with the production of specific techniques and instrumentsuseful to handle conflicts and mediation practices, in localcontexts, that can be transferred to other European urbansituations.The working group held 4 seminars, one in each ofthe partner cities. Firstly partners discussed the differentmeanings of the term mediation which existed in their cityusing practical project examples from a local context.The working groups concluded 4 main points:> Typologies of Mediation – considering the areaof intervention and the different target groups> Mediation Practices – these can be determinedby different geographical areas of intervention> Fundamental principles of Mediation – ideally mediationshould be accessible to all, neutral; independent, processorientated, informal and confidential> Criteria for comparison and evaluation – in order tocompare and review the activities in the partner citiesThe final conference for this working group was heldin October 2006 and was essentially the part of the projectwhich was open to the public and presented the findingof the working group.
