EU-SIM
Date du début: 22 févr. 2016, Date de fin: 21 août 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

EU-SIM is a project launched by Qvorum Institute which main objective is to raise the level of knowledge regarding EU institutional mechanisms among 60 youngsters aged between 18 and 30 years from Romania, Belgium, Germany, Greece and Cyprus. We and our partners have had two specific objectives around of whom we have guided our activity: the first one was to increase the level of political culture and the second one was to make our target group familiar with the decisional process at the European level. Among the partners’ responsibilities we have had the following ones: selection and guidance of the participants based on the profile established by joint agreement, selection of a national expert in institutional mechanisms to brief the participants before the event, communication about the event. EU-SIM,the simulation, took place in Bucharest for 5 days, involving 60 youth from the 5 partner countries. The participants had the chance to play the role of either the MEPs, either representatives of the 28 EU Member States or of a non-institutional actor. The first 4 days were dedicated to two separate topics in each institutional body, while the 5th day was dedicated to a Conciliation Committee and a final vote in both institutions. The Parliament was a rendition to scale of the actual European Parliament, with the Parliament consisting of a total of 25 members. All the European Parliamentary Groups in the actual European Parliament have been represented in the simulation, with their real sizes rendered to scale. The Council of the EU counted all its 28 member states and the simulation included as well representatives of the lobby groups. The topics discussed, negotiated and voted by the Parliament and the Council are the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and the European Agenda for Security. The participants were selected by the each partner organization, respecting the profile of: students at European Affairs, International Relations, Political Science or related fields. The candidates have proved their interest for European Affairs by the extra-curricular activities they have undertaken in this domain. The project had achieved its goal to raise the level of political culture among the 60 youth and to make them aware of the great importance that their direct involvement can have over the European decision making process and over billions of citizens. Thus, through the momentum created and by dissemination in all the 5 partner countries we are keen on setting in motion a broader process of youth inclusion and involvement in decision-making process at both national and European level.
