EU in the Arctic: governance, research, international relations
Date du début: 1 sept. 2015, Date de fin: 31 août 2018 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The Northern Arctic Federal University’s (NArFU) location defines its scientific and educational focus on the Arctic region. The European Union is linked to the Arctic region with a unique combination of history, geography, economy and scientific achievements. It is considered of high importance to provide to NArFU students the knowledge about the role, place, policy, activities and resources of the European Union in the Arctic region. One of the bachelor programs of NArFU Institute of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences (IHSPS) “International relations” unfortunately doesn’t include the disciplines dealing with the European Union in general and the role of the European Union in Arctic region in particular. The management team of the IHSPS considers it important to change the study plan and include the teaching course “EU in the Arctic: governance, research, international relations” in it to foster interest on EU studies in the Arctic region in Northern Russia through research and educational activities. Project activities consist of two parts – academic course and summer conference. The aim of the course is to give students general knowledge of EU, EU’s Arctic policy and its main priorities in the Arctic region. The summer conference has two general aims - to enlarge the knowledge of the students who attended the course and provide students of different specialties and general public with basic knowledge on EU and EU-Russia relations in the Arctic. The expected results are the strengthening knowledge on the European Union in general and EU’s interests and activities in the Arctic region and growing interest in scientific and educational activities related to the EU among not only NArFU students, but also NArFU academic staff involved to the project implementation. Project sustainability will be ensured through the inclusion of the academic course in the study plan of the bachelor programme “International relations” on regular basis.
