EU Broadning people´s mind in ageing

The EuBiA project aimed to respond to the educational challenges of an ageing population in Europe. In the context of this demographic change and in view of the importance of learning in later life nine organisations from seven countries, including older learners, discussed important issues and shared their experiences in the field of learning in later life.One of EuBiA´s main aims was to establish a European network and to discuss relevant topics concerning networking and learning in later life. The focus on networking was discussing theories but also practising networking. In this way the EuBiA partners were able to enlarge the EuBiA network by involving 18 new partners from other countries. During 5 transnational project meetings the partners exchanged know-how, experiences and practical informations in the field and had the opportunity to get to know organisations and their work and approach to later life learning in different European countries. Keywords in the context of lifelong learning and for learning in later life are empowerment, advocacy and participation. These were broadly discussed alongside barriers and obstacles to participation and the means by which the obstacles could be overcome so as to benefit learning in ageing societies. Beside topics like intergenerational learning, older learners and gender, disability and ethnicity were discussed. The team developed the EuBiA criteria for good practice and each partner organisation presented an example of a good practice project. The outcome of the EuBiA project is the “EuBiA Guide – Getting older people involved in learning”.
